Abstract
1379146 Sampling powdered material CIMENTS LAFARGE SA 24 Nov 1972 [8 Dec 1971 25 April 1972] 54349/72 Heading B8N An appliance 7 for taking samples from powder falling from a hopper 17 and delivering them to a funnel 3 comprises a calibrated receptacle 8 mounted on an arm 9 which is moved horizontally by a motor 10 and vibrated during at least part of this movement, means such as a toothed wheel 21 for upturning the receptacle when it reaches a toothed rack 14, and such as a spring for returning the receptacle to the upright position. The powder to be sampled may be crushed clinker and is fed by a vibratory shoot 18. The receptacle 8 is filled as it moves under the shoot at about 1/3 r.p.m. and levelled off as it moves under a scraper 19 towards the tipping station III. During this movement the receptacle may be vibrated by a separate motor acting either on a spring-mounted base 15 or directly on the arm; a vibrator may be mounted beneath the plate 15 and controlled by switches 24 operated by cams 25. Switches may also be provided to cause vibration of the receptacle when this is in its upturned position at the tipping station III. The receptacle 8 is returned to its upright position by a spring after passing the station and the carrying arm comes to rest ready for a starting signal for the next sample taking cycle. The sampling appliance 7 may be used in the plant illustrated in Fig. 2 (not shown), for measuring the lime content of clinker and regulating a cement kiln. Cement clinker from the kiln is crushed by a jaw-breaker (30) and crusher (32) and passed to the hopper (17) for delivery at (34). The sampling appliance (7) may be set to take samples four times an hour and pass these into a container (1) where analysis of the lime content is obtained, the results of which being used to control further operation of the kiln.
