Abstract
1376476 Door bolts J D GRIFFITHS 2 Oct 1973 [25 Oct 1972] 49113/72 Heading E2A A door fastening device includes a bolt 19 and a safety chain 23 one end of the chain being attached to a mounting member, i.e. keeper 15, and the other end being attached to, or adapted to be releasably attached to, a slider, the body 10 of the device having a slideway along which the slider can be moved, and the bolt being either constituted by the slider or being constituted by a separate element and slidable along the slideway. As shown, the body 10 is formed by a pressing of flanged, channel shape in cross-section and a base plate 13, the keeper 15 being of similar construction, and includes a slot 16 for reception of the slider 25 and a slot 17 for the operating knob of a bolt 19 having a U-shaped cross-section. In use, the slider 25 is inserted in the enlarged end 18 of the slot 16 but otherwise is inserted and stored in a slot in the keeper. In a modification, the cylindrical bolt 137 is constituted by the slider and the chain is attached to the operating knob 138 thereof, the latter, in use, being received in an L-shaped branch slot 134 by rotation of the bolt. The latter may be of magnetic material and held in a stored position by a magnet on the keeper.
