Abstract

1373031 Pneumatic conveyers ASSOCIATED ENG Ltd 26 Jan 1972 [1 Feb 1971] 3643/71 Heading B8A A hopper 1 for powdered material is discharged by fluidizing the material in the bottom thereof and delivering same to a discharge pipe 16. The base of the hopper has a foraminous insert 11 through which air from a pipe 9 passes to fluidize the material. An inverted cup-shaped member 12 is mounted above and spaced from the insert 11 and encloses the inlet end of the discharge pipe. A further supply of air from a pipe 15 is directed by a nozzle 14 into the pipe 16 just above apertures 17 through which the material is introduced into the pipe 16. The lower extremity 13 of the member 12 is shaped to be parallel with the converging sides of the hopper to form an annular area therebetween for the ingress of material to be fluidized. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) the further supply of air is delivered downstream of the material inlet of the pipe 16.
