Abstract
885,667. Pneumatic conveyers. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. April 11, 1960 [April 14, 1959], No. 12598/59. Class 78 (1). The outlet 12 from a storage hopper for powdered material opens into a mixing chamber 13 and is controlled by a bellvalve 15. Carrier gas is supplied by conduits 26 to a manifold 25 from which it passes (1) through jet orifices 27 to sweep over the surface of the valve and (2) through a ring of jet tubes 29 to sweep over the lower portion 24 of the mixing chamber. The orifices 27 may be replaced by a single annular slot, or by a ring of separate slots. The axes of the orifices 27 may be inclined sideways to produce a whirling motion of the gas. Carrier gas may also be supplied to the tube 16 supporting the valve 15. This gas can issue through the extension 28 of the tube, through peripheral holes in the valve or through apertures in the tube in proximity to the outlet 12.
