1370886 Valves JAMES HOWDEN & CO Ltd 20 Sept 1971 [26 Sept 1970] 45970/70 Heading F2Y A liquid seal for a gas pipe comprises a vessel 3 containing liquid 4 and divided by a partition 6 into chambers I and II, two Venturi devices 13, 15 being arranged so that gas flow in the outlet 12 reduces the pressure in the chamber II and hence the liquid level in the chamber I to uncover the lower end of the gas inlet 9. Initial gas flow bubbles through the liquid to the Venturi devices but return flow is prevented. If the liquid level is sufficiently reduced to permit gas to flow under a baffle 11, gas enters the throat of Venturi 15 and reduces the flow to the throat of Venturi 13. Resistance to flow is thus reduced and not increased as it would be if only one Venturi were provided. Specification 1,165,821 is referred to.
