Abstract

1370373 RF Driers ELECTRICITY COUNCIL D L HODGETT H FUNG and J LAWTON 25 Oct 1972 [25 Oct 1971] 49531/71 Heading F4G Textile slivers are dried by conveying them on an open-mesh belt or between two open-mesh belts 42, 43 in three horizontal passes above, through and below coaxial loop-shaped electrodes 40 and simultaneously or subsequently through a transverse or parallel stream of hot air. Successive electrodes are energized alternately at opposite polarities by a generator. The slivers may be conveyed in passes above and below bars 54 across the electrodes (Fig. 9). A microswitch is operated by a roller resting on the slivers to switch off the RF generator and reduce the belt speed should a sliver break. A variable inductance across the R.F. generator is adjusted by a transducer and a resistance sensor to control the R.F. field strength according to the moisture content of the outgoing slivers. The air may be heated by heat from the R.F. generator.
