Abstract
1368640 Railway vehicles SOC NOUVELLE DES ATELIERS DE VENISSIEUX 18 Nov 1971 [4 Dec 1970] 53590/71 Heading B7L An articulated rail vehicle comprises at least one pair of chassis 1, 2 coupled by means of a ball joint 3, each of the two mutually coupled ends of the chassis 1, 2, resting on sliding bearings 12 on a common bogie 8 having an axle 9, the bogie 8 having at each of its ends a triangular draught bar 15, 19 pivoted about an axis parallel to the axle 9, the bar 19 having an eye 23 engaging with a spindle 24 fixed on the longitudinal axis of the chassis 1 and the bar 15 having an eye 27 pivoted on one end of a horizontal rod 33 whose other end is pivoted in a support 35 fixed at one side of the chassis 2, this mounting serving to maintain the eye 27 substantially on the longitudinal axis of the chassis 2 whilst allowing the necessary movement when the vehicle rounds a curve. The draught bar 15 is supported to prevent it falling under gravity by having an extension 28 pivotally connected to two links 29 pivoted to a support 32 on the chassis 2. Flexible rubber sleeves may be provided in any of the pivotal joints to provide the necessary compliance. The articulated vehicle is described as providing the base for a two-level superstructure for transporting motor vehicles.
