Abstract
1,003,559. Railway vehicles; railway vehicle buffers and draw gear. OFFICINE DI COSTA MASNAGA S.p.A. June 26, 1962 [Sept. 21, 1961; Nov. 28, 1961], No. 24490/62. Headings BTL and B7T. A railway wagon, particularly for the transport of motor cars, comprises a pair of tubular cross-beams 36, Fig. 1, and a plate 37 welded thereto which is provided with webs 38, 39, Fig. 3, and has an opening 41 and strengthening plates 43 guiding an axle box 42. The spring guides 45 pivot about pins 46, and casings 49, 52 are provided over the guides and the wheel. The wagon is constructed to have two relatively movable halves, supported on two end axles suspended as already described, and a central axle, Fig. 18, guided between box members 501, 503 and 502, 503. The top of the axle box is pinned to a carriage spring (not shown) which is connected at 506 to spring guides 510. On one side of semi-wagon A and on the opposite side of semi-wagon B there is provided an arm 600 having a roller 601 guided in a box 602 having guide surfaces 603. The two semi-wagons are joined together by draw bars having a ball- and-socket connection, Figs. 17, 19 (not shown) In the car transporter of Figs. 7, 8, the upper transversely ribbed and curved loading deck 12 is supported by members 10, 11, and is provided with longitudinal members which define guide channels for the accommodation of the motor car wheels. A part 121 of the floor is hinged at 13 and supported at its other end by hinged links so that it may be inclined for loading. The framework of the wagon is completed by upper railings. The buffers at the outer ends of the wagons are raised above the level of the lower floor, but where the semi-wagons are joined over the central axle, each semi-wagon has a buffer on one side and a rubbing pad on the other, see Fig. 8. Platforms 28-29 which are pin connected to one semi-wagon and merely rest on the other semi-wagon are provided between the upper and lower floors, see also Fig. 8a (not shown). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, Fig. 11, the wagon narrows at its ends and is provided at each end with a bridge 165 each supported by a telescopic strut to pivot about a hinge under the control of an hydraulic jack 167 operated by a system such as that of Fig. 15 (not shown), and the loading floors have wheel guides provided with end portions which may be switched over to open or close the guides. The buffers at the outer ends of the wagon are each connected to triangular plates 304, Fig. 16, pivoted at 305 and connected to a similar plate on the other side by a rod 307 so that as one buffer is depressed the other buffer expands by the same amount. The drawhook 308 operates against volute springs as shown.
