Abstract

1368503 Feeding webs EASTMAN KODAK CO 26 Aug 1971 [27 Aug 1970] 40115/71 Heading B8R [Also in Division G2] Apparatus for stripping the leading end L of a web S from between flanges 4, 5 of reel 1 includes a device for increasing the spacing of the flanges at a particular location so that as the reel 1 is turned in a web unwinding direction the web S is caused to be stripped off near to that location. It is essential that at least one of the flanges 4, 5 is resilient so that their spacing can be increased and that the flange spacing normally restrains the outermost web convolution C2 from spilling off the reel 1. As shown in Fig. 1 the flange spacing is increased by rollers 17, 18 on sprung arm 21 and the flanges are so shaped that the convolution C2 is flexed. Thus when the flanges 4, 5 are opened out by the rollers 17, 18 the flexed web S will project tangentially as shown. In another embodiment the flanges restrain the web but do not flex it. The flange spacing is altered by an identical device to the parts 15-25 which is additionally fitted with a stripping finger attached to the free end of the arm 21 and which passes between the flanges 4, 5 to strip off the end L.
