Abstract

1368084 Radiant burners COOPERHEAT 8 Aug 1972 [8 June 1971] 19458/71 Heading F4T A non-catalytic, surface-combustion burner comprises a housing 13 having an inlet for gas/air mixture and an outlet across which extends a layer 8 of hand-deformable, permeable ceramic fibre blanket with at least one layer 6, 7 of harddeformable ceramic fibre cloth overlying the layer 8<SP>1</SP>, the cloth layer being thin compared to the blanket layer whereby the blanket layer diffuses the gas/air mixture to the entire area of the cloth layer, the mixture burning at the exterior surface of the cloth layer. Wire loops 9 secure said layers 6, 7, 8 to a supporting layer 10 of expanded metal or wire-mesh sheet, and a layer 16 of foamed metal acts as a flame trap to reduce the risk of lighting back. The burner face 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 16 is sealed between ledges 11 and flanges 15 by ceramic-paper gaskets. The burner may be straight, arced or circular, or annular, Fig. 1 (not shown), for surrounding pipework during heating thereof.
