Abstract

1365684 A padlock seal ITW Ltd 25 Nov 1971 [26 Nov 1970] 56267/70 Heading E2A [Also in Division B6] A padlock and a cover or a cover blank which is securable to the padlock while the padlock is being secured to an article the blank being bent to form the cover, the cover being a one piece member which is held secured on the padlock by a hasp thereof being locked into the padlock, the cover, when in the secured position, covering a key hole of the padlock so that a key cannot be inserted into the keyhole without visibly damaging the cover. The cover is an open ended box which is slid onto a padlock so that a slot 36' engages round the hasp, and the free end of the hasp engages in an aperture 38 when the padlock is locked. The cover has a tab 39' defined by slots 40, 42 whereby the tab may be pulled back to sever the cover and render the keyhole accessible. The cover may be closed at one end, and the tab may extend along the bottom of one side or along the bottom of the cover and closing the end. The cover blank. Fig. 1 is stamped from a sheet of polyethylene or polypropylene or is injection, moulded, it has holes 14, 18, 29, the square hole 14 engaging the hasp first and an open ended slot 36 being superimposed thereon when the blank is bent about scored lines 22, 24, 26, 28 to form the cover. The tab is provided by scored lines 30, 32 having a U shaped cut 34 at one end. The tab may carry indicia. The tab may be omitted and the cover may be torn to uncover the keyhole. The cover may be a sleeve of rectangular cross section and may have a key hole slot in one edge to engage the root of the hasp during fitting on the padlock.
