Abstract
1363400 Collapsible tubes COLGATEPALMOLIVE CO 2 May 1973 [2 May 1972] 17912/73 Heading B8D The end of a collapsible metallic, metal/non- metallic laminated, or plastics tube 11 is frictionally clamped between the shoulder portions 19 and 28 and the skirt portions 17 and 26 of inner and outer moulded plastics elements 15 and 16 of a tube head structure, the tube end being initially pushed over the inner element skirt and crimped down over the shoulder portion and then the outer element being forced over the tube end and inner element. The outer element has an externally-threaded nozzle portion 29 provided with an end flange 33 overlying the nozzle portion 21 of the inner element and a groove 30 snap-fastenably receiving a rib 30a on the inner element nozzle portion. The outer element is of polyethylene or polypropylene, and the inner element is of a plastics, such as polymerized urea formaldehyde or a specified nylon, which expands on contact with the aqueous contents of the tube thereby improving the head/tube end connection. In a modification Fig. 5 (not shown), the body is additionally clamped axially between an end flange 37 of the inner skirt portion and the edge of the outer skirt portion. In another modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the outer element nozzle portion is omitted, the upper edge of its shoulder portion engaging a groove in the base of the inner element nozzle portion.
