Abstract
1363069 Silicone elastomer-forming compositions DOW CORNING Ltd 29 Oct 1971 [4 Nov 1970] 52432/70 Heading C3T An elastomer forming composition is obtained by mixing (1) a substantially linear alkoxy- or hydroxy-terminated polydiorganosiloxane of viscosity at least 100 cs/25‹ C., wherein the organic radicals are hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radicals, (2) an alkyl polysilicate or an alkoxy silane or alkoxy organisiloxane having on average more than 2 Si-bound alkoxy radicals per molecule, (3) a condensation catalyst, and (4) a liquid organosiloxane having in the molecule at least one C 1-6 alkoxy or alkoxyalkoxy radical and at least one radical -QNX 2 or -QZ, where each X is H or a C 1-8 alkyl radical or an aryl radical, Q is a divalent hydrocarbon radical providing 3-11 C atoms between Si and N or Z, and Z is a radical composed of C, H and N, containing 2 amine groups and attached to Q by a C-N linkage, any other organic radicals in the liquid organosiloxane being hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radicals. The presence of component (D) improves adhesion to unprimed substrates. Conventional fillers, pigments and heat stabilizers may be present; the composition may be made up as a two-part pack. In the example various amounts of an aminosiloxane, a triisopropoxysilyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane cross-linking agent, and dibutyltin dilaurate catalyst are added to a mixture of a polydimethylsiloxane diol, silica of 5 micron particle size and a trace of water. The aminosiloxane is obtained by reaction of a polydimethylsiloxane diol first with N-#-aminoethyl-γ- aminopropyl trimethoxysilane, then with methyl trimethoxysilane. The composition is used to bond together panels of aluminium, copper or steel.
