Abstract

1361597 Automatic speed control AGFAGEVAERT 19 Oct 1971 [23 Oct 1970] 50498/70 Heading G3R [Also in Division G4] The speed of a roller, which may be a backing roller in a dip coating system for photographic material, is regulated by timing successive pulses received by two fixed detectors from a member synchronized with the roller. In an example, a roller 70 is driven by a motor 71, and is connected to a disc 72 with alternate transparent and opaque regions at its periphery, Fig.4. The regions may be formed photographically or by cut-outs. The disc cooperates with a photo-head 73 including a light source and diaphragm 14 with slots aligned with two photo-transistors 12, 13. The outputs from the photo-transistors passes to a circuit 74, Fig. 9 (not shown), which uses an integrator to derive a value for the time elapsing between corresponding pulse signals from the two phototransistors. The inverse of this value is then computed by an operational amplifier circuit with a pulse width modulated input, Fig. 10 (not shown), and used as a measure of the roller speed for comparison with a set speed signal from a controller 76. The error signal produced is used to adjust the input to motor 71 to maintain the roller speed at the desired value.
