Abstract

1,148,437. Automatic control of speed. BROWN BOVERI & CO. Ltd. Aug. 8, 1966 [Aug.10, 1965], No. 35420/66. Heading G3R. The speed of one or more drive motors 2 in web or filament machinery is controlled with respect to a master motor not shown by a digital control system superimposed upon an analogue system. Each motor drives an A. C. tachogenerator, and for the analogue system their rectified voltage outputs U o , U 1 are compared in a servo amplifier 7 controlling the drive motor field. For digital control, pulses at the master frequency are applied to a fixed number counter 14 via an AND gate 13, the other input to which is connected to a flip-flop 22 triggered by pulses at the difference between master and drive frequencies. The output of the counter switches a second flip-flop 17 whose output thus comprises pulses of constant height and of a width corresponding to the speed of the master motor (derived from the fixed count) at a rate dependent upon the frequency difference and hence upon the speed error. These are converted to an analogue voltage, at 27, which is compared with the master voltage and the difference integrated at 28 and fed to the analogue system servo amplifier 7. The integration causes correction to be applied until the relative angular positions of the motors, as well as their speeds, are in agreement.
