Abstract

1359333 Moulding plastic billets SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSOHAPPIJ NV 6 Oct 1971 [8 Oct 1970] 46446/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division F4] Billets of a plastic polymer material are heated by being moved between spaced heating plates, the billets remaining in continuous contact with the heating plates. The plates 17 are of aluminium, copper or steel and are heated by hot oil circulating in ducts 18. Non-friction coatings 17a, e.g. PTFE are applied to the plates 17 and the upper plate is supported on adjustable springs 14. The billets WL may be flat and circular, and are pushed between the plates by bars 20 connected at each end to driving chains 21 running along each side of the plates 17. After leaving the heating plates the billets are delivered to a forming press 56 consisting of a die-mould 55, a forming plunger 58 and an ejector 59. The heated billets slide down shoot 52 on to a table 53 where they are detected by heat- or weight-sensitive means 60 which initiates, through control unit 61, a piston-operated pusher 50.
