Abstract
135,834. Swartling, H. L. R. Nov. 23, 1918, [Convention date] Fixed-abutment type; packing-drums &c.-Relates to fluid-pressed packing for rotary compasses, hydraulic generators, motors, &c. In a rotary pump or the like having radially-sliding vanes carried by a rotor 16, packing members 21, 22, having a U-shaped cross-section and thin, resilient flanges, are disposed between end disks rotating with the rotor so as to border the working chamber, as shown. Fluid from the pressure side of the machine is supplied by a pipe 32 and passages 31, 29, 30 behind the members 21, 22, and also by way of pipes 42 to the spaces behind packing members 41 in the abutments. Valves 33, 34 are provided so as to connect the pipe 32 with the pressure side for both directions of working in a reversible machine. In a modification, the passages 31, 29, 30 are dispensed with by grooving and perforating the members 21, 22 so as to allow the pressure fluid from behind the members 41 to pass behind the members 21, 22.
