Abstract

1358269 Photo-conductive layer XEROX CORP 29 Nov 1971 [1 Dec 1970] 55317/71 Heading G2C A photo-conductive layer comprises a mixture of at least two photo-conductive pigments dispersed in an insulating binder, the binder being capable of transporting holes and electrons but incapable of substantial generation of holes and electrons during exposure to imagewise illumination and being capable of generating and transporting holes and electrons during exposure to illumination at a higher level than imagewise exposure level. In the embodiments the binder may be a mixture of polyvinyl carbazole sensitized by trinitrofluorenone, an oxadiazole, copoly vinly chloride-vinyl acetate and tetrachlorophthalic anhydride or a polycarbonate and a triphenylmethane whilst the photoconductor is a mixture of Se, a phthalocyanine and ZnO or TiO 2 . Other photo-conductors and binders are specified. The binder and photoconductors may be coated on a substrate of Al either as a slurry or a melt. Other substrates are specified. The photo-conductive layer may be used in a cyclic xerographic process wherein after development and transfer of the image, the layer is highly illuminated thereby rendering the binder conductive thus erasing the latent electrostatic image from the layer prior to recharging.
