Abstract

1358166 Central heating systems; hot water supply systems D J NEVRALA 16 Nov 1971 [21 Aug 1970] 40277/70 Headings F4U and F4A A central heating and domestic hot water supply system comprises a vessel 1, Fig. 1, containing a liquid thermal storage medium, e.g. water, which is heated by upper and lower elements 3, 4 which may be immersion elements operated by off-peak electricity, and having two heat exchangers 9, 13 connectable in series and immersed in the medium to transfer heat to the domestic draw-off system from a mains line 7 to an outlet pipe 15 under the control of thermostatically controlled three-way valves 11, 14 to allow flow in series to the heat exchangers. The central heating system having radiators (not shown) utilizes the liquid thermal storage medium in a closed circuit including a supply line 5 and return conduit 6. In operation pipe-line 16 may take the water directly from the exchangers and by-pass the valve 14. In a modification, the vessel 1 is replaced by two superposed interconnected vessels 31, 32, Fig. 2, each housing a heater 35, 36 and a heater exchanger 38, 37 for the domestic hot water system. The central heating circuit is supplied through an outlet 43 and return line 44 and the vessel 32 incorporates a cooling coil 46 which provides cooling of the radiator in the heating system, the cooled water passing into the circuit through an outlet 44 and valve 48 and returned via a valve 47 and conduit 51 to the lower vessel 32.
