1358126 Road rollers RICHIER 29 June 1972 [29 June 1971] 30540/72 Heading B7H A vehicle comprises two rollers 1, 2, the axles of which are carried by two chassis 4, 8 with a tie rod which may be fixed rigidly to one chassis 8 in various angle-positions and connected to the other chassis 4 by a pivot 11 with a steering hydraulic jack 18, whereby in one angle position of the tie-rod the two rollers may be staggered laterally. As shown the tie-rod, which may comprise two elements 9, 10 is fixed to the chassis 8 by a pivot 14, Fig. 4, and a pin 16 combines with an intermediate hole on the tie rod and with one or other of the holes 16, 17 on the chassis 8. The rollers can be staggered by half their working length by rigidly connecting a small tie-rod 26, Fig. 5, pinned at 15 and at 16 or 17. The jack 18 may be attached to points 21 or 22 on the tie-rod and to points of attachment 19, or 20 of the chassis 4 according to the relative configuration of the rollers. A distributer 18a, Fig. 8, may block the source of oil from a pump driven by a heat engine 40, to the jack which then acts as a rigid angle-brace. A jack may be provided for each of the tie-rods. The chassis 5 of the vehicle is fixed only to chassis 4 or may be coupled thereto by a tie-rod device as already described. Arms 31, 32, Fig. 3, pivoted to respective chassis 4, 8 and supporting rubber tyred wheels 35, 36 are operated by jacks 37, 38 via distributer 42 so that the rollers 1, 2 may be driven by the wheels through friction or the wheels may lift the rollers off the ground, Fig. 1, to move the vehicle from place to place. Hydraulic motors 35a, 36a coupled with wheels 35, 36 are driven from a variable discharge pump 43 connected to the heat engine 40. The rollers 1, 2 may alternatively be driven by electric motors fed by a generator coupled to the heat engine.
