Abstract

783,305. Colour television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. [April 4, 1955] [April 3, 1954], No. 9762/55. Class 39(1). A colour television tube has at least two guns to one of which is supplied a signal with a larger band-width than the other, that gun having a smaller ratio of the distance electron lens-image screen and electron lens-first crossover than the other gun or guns. The crossover normally coincides with the aperture of the diaphragm between the cathode and the lens. In Fig. 1 (not shown), a central gun is of normal length and two outer guns are shorter, the three guns lying in a plane and the outer electron beam being deflected to bring all three beams into focus at a single point on the image screen. This arrangement is shown in Fig. 2, with the gun axes inclined, each lens including an additional electrode 23, 24, 25 wider than the anode 26, 27, or 28, the extra length of the middle gun permitting relative displacement of the additional electrodes and a more compact spacing of the gun. Similar overlapping of electromagnetic lenses may be obtained, Fig. 3 (not shown). In Fig. 5, the lenses are of different construction, the outer guns comprising electrodes 39, 40, 41, and 42, 43, 44 respectively. The central gun has a wide electrode 46 extending outside the lenses of the other guns. Deflectors 48, 49, 60, 51 bring the outer beams to the point on the image screen struck by the central beam.
