Abstract

1353108 Retractible suspensions EEZION Ltd 1 Dec 1972 [2 Dec 1971 22 June 1972] 56106/71 and 29351/72 Heading B7D A trailer or semi-trailer suspension comprises on each side of a chassis 1 a pivoted wheel arm 3 movable by means of an hydraulic ram 7 between a first position in which the chassis 1 is raised and a second position in which the chassis is lowered to facilitate loading, a suspension spring 6 attached to the arm so as to move therewith between positions corresponding to the first and second positions, and a latch mechanism 10 for securing the spring 6 in the position corresponding to the first position. The latch mechanism 10 comprises a pair of arms 11 mounted on the chassis 1 at one end by a common pivot 12 and joined at the other by a stud bolt 13. The arms 11 are urged by a spring 14 into a position in which the stud bolt 13 engages the spring 6, and one movable to disengage the stud bolt from the spring 6 by an hydraulic cylinder 16 acting on the lever 15. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the trailer or semi-trailer has tandem wheels on each side of the chassis.
