Abstract

1352752 Electro-photography CANON K K 19 April 1971 [11 March 1970 15 April 1970] 22946/71 Heading G2H A copier comprises housing 12 on which an original holder 11 Fig. 5 (not shown) reciprocates, upwardly removable photo-conductive drum 1 Fig. 6 (not shown), upwardly removable unit comprising a corona device 4 and a corona-exposure device 5, sideways removable unit comprising lamps, reflectors and shields Fig. 7 (not shown), image-projecting black box 43, sideways removable magnetic developer device 7, removable corona device 8, transfer device 9, drum-cleaning device 10 and laterally removable heat-fixing device 300. The drum comprises a photo-conductive layer sandwiched between an insulative surface layer and an insulative or conductive substrate. If the charging wires (400), Figs. 38-40 (not shown) of the corona devices are disconnected, a tension pin (415) makes contact with a grounding plate (416). The developer device Figs. 8 and 12 (not shown) comprises two doctor-bladed magnetic brushes and two mixing screws separated by a partition having an adjustable opening (113). A separate toner supply hopper (108), Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), which is hinged for supply of toner or removal of developer device, has a feed screw (132) operated manually or automatically and may have a mixing device (152), Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown). The discharge opening of the hopper is closed by a spring-loaded cover (115), Fig. 19 (not shown) when disconnected from the developer device. The drum-cleaning device comprises cleaning rollers (506 and 507), roller-contacting brushes (513 and 522), and brush-contacting beating members (516 and 523), the rollers being of resilient material wrapped around with cleaning material and being separated by a partition to form a lower chamber having a toner-removal screw (515) and upper chamber having a toner-removal suction port (524). The gap between the lower wall of the lower chamber and the drum may be sealed by a roller (518), Fig. 27 (not shown) or sheet (552), Fig. 29 (not shown). The copy sheet feed mechanism Fig.20 (not shown) comprises a roller (59 2 ) and guide (86) mounted on a pivotally openable side plate (94). The fixing device Figs. 24-26 (not shown) comprises upper and lower pivoted members, each bounded by rotating chains (307 and 311). The lower member has a transport chain belt (312) and the upper member has an air chamber with a suction fan at one end. A microswitch or photo-cell copy sheet sensing device actuates the developer device and on sheet jamming produces a warning, de-energizes the fixing means or effects complete shut down.
