Abstract

1348878 Nacreous pigments E I DUPONT DE NEMOURS & CO 29 March 1972 [30 March 1971] 14740/72 Heading C4A Titania-coated micaceous pigments are provided with a surface coating of methacrylatochromic chloride for improved weather resistance. The nacreous pigment may be treated with the coating agent in an aqueous dispersion at up to 60‹ C., to deposit 0À05-15% by wt. coating, based on the pigment weight. The coating agent may be prepared by reacting basic chromic chloride in isopropanol solution with methacrylic acid. The pigment may be pretreated with boiling water or boiling mineral acid before coating. Suitable pigments for treating are described in U.S. Patent 3,087,828.
