Abstract

1347925 Urinals F BOLBROE and P KARPF 26 Jan 1972 [1 Feb 1971] 3596/72 Heading A4N [Also in Division E1] A urinal comprises a basin 8, adapted to be secured above floor level to a wall, a housing mounted around said basin and provided with a slot-shaped opening 14, Fig. 4, situated within a mouth (10) Fig. 6 (not shown), of the basin, the longitudinal axis of said opening being situated in a vertical plane of symmetry of the urinal, and that part of the housing near the opening converging inwardly towards the mouth and the opening. The housing comprises two half-shells 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, which define the opening 14, and whose front walls are of concave shape in any cross-section parallel to a vertical plane of symmetry, and convex at right angles to the plane of symmetry. Each half-shell has a lower wall 16, 16<SP>1</SP> which extends under the basin and the bottom of a frame 1 and side walls 17, 17<SP>1</SP>. Flanges 18, (18<SP>1</SP>) Fig. 1 (not shown) having a bead 19, Fig. 2, engage the top of the frame so that the housing may be lifted off of the basin if they are pivoted forwardly and upwardly about an axis defined by the bead. The mouth of the basin has a constant width, flanges 11 extending from lateral edges 9 defining same. A water trap 3 adapted to be connected to an outlet (not shown) is mounted at the bottom of the frame, and a rinsing valve 4, connectable to the mains, is joined through a pipe 5 to a sprinkler head 6 provided with nozzles (not shown). An automatic control device (7) Figs. 3, 5, 6 (not shown) for the rinsing valve 4 may be mounted in the frame and is operable to open the valve when the PH value of liquid in the urinal exceeds a certain limit. The basin may be made of ceramic material, stainless steel or reinforced plastics and the frame may be made of metal. Fig. 7 (not shown) illustrates an arrangement of a series of juxtaposed urinals where the half-shells, 12, 12<SP>1</SP>, (apart from the endmost ones of the arrangement), are each integral with another so that a housing (12") covers adjacent halves of two neighbouring urinals. The lower walls 16, 16<SP>1</SP> constitute a continuous wall 16<SP>11</SP>, and the front faces 15, 15<SP>1</SP> meet at a ridge (22).
