Abstract

1344173 Dust extraction apparatus; centrifugal separator B D CLEGG 5 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 28645/71 Headings BIT and B2P Apparatus for removing dust from working areas comprises a tangential discharge fan 1 arranged to extract dust-laden air and deliver it into two ducts 6, 8, duct 6 receiving the air from the periphery of the fan and duct 8 receiving air from nearer the axis, and duct 8 communicating with an array of filter elements 12. Duct 6 conveys its air carrying the heavy particles to outlet 11, and duct 8 conveys a fraction of its air carrying the light particles to the same outlet 11. Outlet 11 is of smaller cross-section that the sum of inlets 7, 9 to the ducts. Most of the air flow in duct 8 passes through filter elements 12 which are of reentrant form, comprising concentric tubes of polyester felt, and arranged in pairs in a frame 13. Electric vibrator 19 shakes the frame and elements to dislodge dust, during operation or when fan 1 is off. Deflectors 18 under each pair of elements 12 bridge progressively larger cross-sections of duct 8 to exclude heavy dust from elements 12.
