Abstract

1344100 Rotary positive-displacement pumps. CHANDLER EVANS INC 30 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 12445/71 Heading F1F In an hydraulic gear pump a sealing block 24 containing a discharge channel 36 is held against the teeth of gears 20, 22 by springs 34, 288, 290 and a piston 30. Leakage across the end faces of the block and the gears is obviated by plates 298, 300. Spring and pressure loaded pistons 306, 308 urge the plate 300 towards the plate 298. Inlet and outlet conduits 16, 38 are disposed as shown. Pressure in the channel 36 is transmitted to the piston 30 through an orifice 42 and conduit 40. To unload the pump the block 24 is retracted by pressure from an external source applied to the piston through a conduit 174. Alternatively, the conduit 40 is connected to a low-pressure reservoir through a conduit 44, the springs 34, 288, 290 per se being unable to resist the pressure generated by the gears. When the conduit 40 is connected to said reservoir sufficient pressure reduction is ensured by the orifice 42.
