Abstract
1341397 Piecing arrangements R ESCURSELL PRAT 23 Dec 1970 45376/70 Heading DID An automatic piecing device movable along a ring spinning machine in a reciprocal or cyclic movement comprises: means to locate broken threads; means to stop the piecing device upon detection of a broken thread; means to position the carriage exactly in the place required to carry out piecing; means to initiate piecing when the ring rail is positioned to facilitate the operation; means to cause an aspirating nozzle and brushing wheel to approach the bobbin, at a slow speed then a faster speed and to raise the bobbin so that the turns on the lower part of the bobbin can be engaged by the brushing wheel and aspirating nozzle, means for temporarily holding the end of the thread against an edge of the ring. Means for moving the traveller to trap the thread means for piecing the end with fibres on a delivery cylinder of the machine, this means comprising an arm for taking up and then releasing an extra length of thread from the bobbin to avoid tensioning the threads during piecing. As shown, upon detection of a broken thread the travelling carriage 1 is stopped in the extact position for piecing and the ring rail operates a switch 7 (Fig. 3 not shown) to initiate piecing. A bobbin reversing wheel 13 (Fig. 6 not shown) approaches the bobbin and simultaneously raises and rotates it to unwind broken end. Simultaneously, suction nozzle 16 and rotating blades 23 approach the bobbin to detach the thread end and suck it into the nozzle 16. The reversing wheel 13 initially rotates slowly and then more quickly. The suction nozzle 16 then withdraws from the bobbin and the thread end is clamped against the edge of the ring (Figs. 12 and 13 not shown). Arms 41a, 41b (Figs. 10, 11 and 14) are then moved against the ring and cause the traveller to engage the thread. The suction nozzle 16 and the traveller treading arms are now moved upwardly to piecing head 50 which pieces the yarn by placing it in contact with the delivery rollers.
