Abstract

1,117,490. Binding broken yarns. M. GILLONO and P. ALBERTO. 30 Nov., 1965 [8 May, 1965], No. 50880/65. Heading DID. A carriage device capable of travelling along the front of a ring spinning m/c has means to sense a broken yarn, halt the carriage disengage the spool from the spindle, sense the height of the yarn on the spool, retrieve the broken end, locate the traveller, thread yarn into the traveller and bind the yarn to the moving and cut off excess, a pneumatic on electric memory device controlling the sequence of actions of the above means. Passing each spindle a pneumatic device is opened so that a yarn feeler (33) (Figs. 4, 4a not shown) is blown against the yarn running to the associated spindle. If the yarn is absent the feeler rotates through a greater angle to actuate a microswitch (20). Operation of switch (20) causes a solenoid (21) (Figs. 3, 3a, 3b not shown) to push a finger on the carriage into the line of the spindles so that as the carriage reaches the associated spindle the finger engages it, is pivoted to operate a micro switch (25) and then acts as a stop the halt the carriage. Operation of microswitch (25) causes the carriage driving motor to stop and connect the carriage to a pneumatic duct. Simultaneously a cam (26) is moved by solenoid (21) to brake the spindle. Pistons 28 and 30 are then operated successively to move an assembly 29 directly above and into contact with the associated cap 17. Pincers (31) (Figs. 5, 5a not shown) move inside the cop tube and are pneumatically expanded to grip the tube. The tube is then partially lifted from the spindle. At this moment a motor 37 rotates assembly 29 and the cop in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation of the spindle and a piston 8 lowers unit 6. After being lowered to a fixed position unit 6 stops and a fork (40) (Figs 6, 6a, 6b not shown) on the unit engages the cop tube. Unit 6 is then further lowered so that the fork engages and is rotated by the upper end of the part wound package. After rotating through a fixed angle it operates a microswitch (46) to stop the descent of the unit. Finding the yarn end. A flat suction tube (49) (Figs. 7, 7a, 7b not shown) is then moved adjacent the wound yarn and a moving belt arrangement (51, 52) is brought into engagement with the surface of the wound yarn. The belt contacting the wound package moves in a direction to lift the yarn end therefrom and allow it to be sucked into tube (49). Suction tube (58) leading from tube (49) is of undulating form to prevent the sucked away yarn untwisting. After a predetermined period tube (58) moves away to the position of Fig. 7. Pincers (31) are lowered to place cop 17 on its spindle, are removed from the cop and unit 9 is returned to its inoperative position. Traveller locating device. To locate the traveller a forked arrangement on a base (67) (Figs. 8, 8a, 8b not shown) is pushed onto the ringtable 62 to surround the ring. A number of air jets (68) thereon are actuated to create an air current which blows the traveller round the ring to engage against a pin (69) mounted on base (67). A spring member (74) is then raised beneath the ring by a piston (71) to press the traveller against the ring. Base (67) with air jets (68) and pin (69) is then retracted. Threading the traveller. By piston means a device is moved over the thread guide (75) Figs. 9, 9a, 9b not shown and lowered so that a projection (80) thereon contacts the guide and prevents further lowering of the device. Then a further piston (81) causes a needle (82) to move below guide (75) and a piston (83) downwardly rotates the needle taking the yarn with it. The needle is then retracted, pulling the yarn and causing it to pass under traveller (70). The spring member (74) then releases the traveller. Binding device. First embodiment. Unit 6 is then raised, tube (49) carrying the thread end with it as in Fig. 10 (not shown). A unit (85) is then moved by a piston (86) to engage the yarn and move it adjacent rollers (88, 89) (Fig. 10a not shown), the roving (90) being carried away by a suction device (91). Pistons then operate cutters on unit (85) to sever the roving the end of which is held by a suction tube (97) on unit (85). The roving and yarn are then side by side between arms (103, 103') which are then operated by a piston to move in opposite directions and roll the yarn and roving together. Unit (85) is then retracted and since the brake on spindle 17 has been released normal spinning resumes. The carriage resumes its travel along the machine to detect further broken ends. Binding device. Second embodiment. After tube (49) is raised carrying the broken yarn end (84). see Figs. 12-15 not shown. a support (201) is moved towards roving delivery rollers (88, 89) and a roller (205) is brought into contact with roller (89) and drives a further roller (206) over which the yarn (84) lies. Shears (219) are then operated to sever roving (90) running to suction device (91) and a further roller (209) is brought into contact with roller (206). The severed roving end is then fed by the backs of the shears between rollers (206, 209) and into contact with yarn (84). The yarn and roving are then fed downwardly towards the spindle and the twist from the spindle binds the two together. The shears are then opened. Other shears cut the excess yarn held by suction tube (49). Support (201) is then retracted. Binding. device. Third embodiment. In Fig. 16 not shown the binding unit is moved in and the yarn (84) running to suction tube (49) is received by a slotted tube (302). Next shears (311) close to sever the roving running to suction tube (91). The roving end is then blown by an air jet (312) into tube (302) and a further air jet (316) causes the roving to engage about yarn (84). At this time spindle (17) is again driven and the twist therefore binds the yarn and roving together. Shears (315) sever the excess yarn from suction tube (49).
