Abstract

1336976 Transformers STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 17 Feb 1972 7316/72 Heading H1T A method of making a toroidal transformer includes placing an inner winding or windings, 1, on a toroidal core, 2, placing insulation in the form of two toroidal channels, 3, over. the inner winding or windings, forming an outer winding or windings 4, and placing insulation in the form of two more toroidal channels, 5, over the whole structure. The core, 2, may be of a ferrite material or may be of a suitable alloy covered with an insulating material. Leads to the windings can emerge through the semas 6 and 7 of the channels, the seam 6, later being sealed with tape. The channels may be blow-moulded from a sheet of a suitable plastics material e.g. nylon, P.V.C. or polyester, and may include an embossed legend and/or cut-outs for retaining a terminal strip. The channels may also include flexible wiring. Electrostatic screening between the windings can be achieved by the provision of a thin electric conductive sheet contained in the inner toroidal insulating channel. In a further embodiment of the invention, one part of each channel is formed with a lip around each edge to provide an overlapping joint between the two channel parts which can then be sealed with an adhesive.
