Abstract
1335878 End-face seals KOMBINAT LUFTUND-KALTETECHNIK VEB 22 Jan 1971 3023/71 Heading F2B An end-face seal for a refrigerant compressor comprises a resiliently-mounted sealing ring element 3<SP>1</SP> in facial sealing contact with an axially-movable rotary sliding ring element 4<SP>1</SP>, a secondary cup-seal 6<SP>1</SP>, a girth ring 5<SP>1</SP> for supporting the secondary seal and the rotary sliding ring element, and a spring-loaded thrust ring 7<SP>1</SP> of V-section which causes the inner lip of the secondary seal to be pressed into sealing contact when the outer lip is acted upon by the thrust ring. As shown, two stationary rings 3, 3<SP>1</SP> cooperate with two rotary rings 4, 4<SP>1</SP> urged into facial contact by springs 8 housed in a cage 9 which is held against rotation by a pin 10 and carries a guide 12 for the girth rings. Either the secondary seals or the thrust rings may be asymmetrical in radial cross-section to ensure that the outer lip of each secondary seal obtains the required thrust to displace the inner lip.
