Abstract

1333999 Rotary furnaces DEUTSCHE BABCOCK & WILCOX AG 20 Oct 1971 [24 Oct 1970] 48696/71 Heading F4B [Also in Division C1] A double calcining method for the production of gypsum plaster is carried out in apparatus comprising a rotary drum 1 with burner 5 and charge material screw feed 4 at opposite ends, an outer drum 2, openings 7 for the passage of treated material from drum 1 to drum 2, a gas inlet 9 and feed screw 11 at the inlet end of drum 2 and a gas outlet 10 and material hopper 12 at the opposite end of said drum 2. Rotary drum 1 has a gas outlet 6, waste gases from the drums combining together. The temperature in the region of burner 5 may be 1200‹ C. producing a variety of hydrates in the initially treated material including anhydrite. This mixes with fresh gypsum added by the screw 11 and the waste gases fed in by inlet 9 may be at about 700‹ C., leaving through outlet 10 at about 170‹ C., the finished gypsum plaster collecting in hopper 12.
