Abstract
1330612 Electrostatic precipitators F L SMIDTH & CO AS 18 Feb 1972 7713/72 Heading B2J A rapping mechanism for the collector electrodes 1 of an electrostatic precipitator comprises a rapping bar 2 slidably mounted in brackets 14, 15 and provided with slots that cooperate with tongues 5 at the lower ends of the electrodes which are eccentrically mounted at their upper ends 3 so that the weight of the electrodes urges the bar 2 to the left, as shown against a stop 16, 17. A tumbling hammer 9 is pivotally mounted on an arm fixed to a shaft 11 which can be rotated so that the hammer is lifted into an unstable position from whence it falls in a free pendular movement to strike the rounded anvil 8 provided at the end of the bar 2, the distance from the centre of rotation of the hammer to its point of impact with the anvil being equal to the radius of gyration of the hammer. The resulting longitudinal movement of the bar 2 is communicated to the electrodes 1 by way of impact members 7 and the tongues 5. A modified mounting arrangement for the rapping bar 2 is described with reference to Fig. I (not shown). The hammer mechanism may be located outside the precipator casing which is then provided with flexible membranes (23) Fig. 3 (not shown) to seal the rapping bars where they pass through the casing.
