Class 39(1) In an electrostatic precipitator, a cleaning device for the collecting electrodes comprises shock bars 4 beneath collecting electrodes 3 comprising rows of preferably plate shaped elements parallel to the gas flow and movably suspended and carried by the shock bars 4, the shock bars 4 being actuated by hammers 6 mounted on a transversely extending rotatable shaft 5, the shock bars 4 being guided laterally by guide brackets 10 mounted on lateral rails 1 disposed at the ends of the rows of electrodes and are secured to and carried by the two outermost shock bars 4. The shock bars have studs 7 acting on pins or lugs 8 by which the shock bars are carried by the electrodes by means of pins 9. Hammers for striking the shock bars are mounted on rotary shaft 5. 10 are U-shaped guide brackets for the shock bars and are supported on lateral rails 11, secured to the two outermost shock bars 12 are baffle plates. If the precipitator has a large width the rails are divided into a plurality of flexibly connected sections, each section being carried by 2 shock bars.
