Abstract

1330453 Ignition systems LUMENITION Ltd 7 Jan 1972 [8 Jan 1971 26 Jan 1971 [ 1029/71 and 3173/71 Heading FIB A transistorized ignition system disclosed in Specification 1219833, in which are provided lensing means to ensure that the infra red rays from the lamp 1 converge to a point 17 in the plane of the rotating disc 3, means to ensure that the photo-transistor 2 produces cleanly switched square wave pulses without oscillation, and means for protecting the power stage against transient voltages at the instant of switch off being provided. The former means comprises a diode D4 across the emitter and collector electrodes of photo-transistor 2 and the latter means comprises resistor R9 and Zener diode Z1 in series across the collector and base electrodes of power transistor P and a diode D2 across the collector and emitter electrodes of P. Resistor R9 and Zener diode Z1 protect against positive going transients and diode D2 against negative going transients. The switching time of power transistor P is slowed by an iron cored inductor L. The power stage may comprise two power transistors (P1) and (P2) arranged as a darlington pair, Fig. 3 (not shown).
