Abstract
1,111,180. Ignition systems. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. April 13, 1967 [April 29, 1966], No.17013/67. Heading F1B. The control electrode 31 of a semi-conductor switch device 30 is connected to a D. C. source 21 by way of a pair of interrupter contacts 10, 11 and an inductor 42 is connected in circuit with the contacts and the control electrode so as to assist the turning off of the switch device when the interrupter contacts are opened. A resistor 44 is connected in shunt across the interrupter contacts so as to ensure turning-on of the switch device before the contacts are reclosed. The semi-conductor device may be an n-p-n transitor or a controlled rectifier. A single diode may be employed in place of the series connected pair of diodes 38, 40 or more than two diodes may be employed.
