Abstract

1328579 Cooling I.C. engines DAIMLERBENZ AG 29 Nov 1971 [1 Dec 1970] 55203/71 Heading F4U An I.C. engine cooling system comprises a main coolant circuit 13, 15 and 16 and a pump 14 passing the coolant from the engine 11 to the radiator 12, a high point 31 of which is connected to a de-aerating pipe 30 leading into a chamber 26 formed in the upper portion of a filling pipe 25 in an expansion vessel 20. The expansion vessel forms part of a coolant bypass circuit having a pipe 21 for de-aeration of the coolant during operation and a charging pipe 22. Between the inner chamber 28 of the vessel 20 and the chamber 26 is a one-way valve 32 which allows de-aeration of the radiator during operation but prevents throughflow from the interior to the radiator. During filling of the system, removal of a filler cap 27 of the pipe 25 allows venting to atmosphere of the radiator.
