1326641 Pedestal desks; furniture joints B L BAYLISS 19 April 1971 [5 March 1970] 10565/70 Heading A4H A "knock-down" desk comprises a desk top 10, Fig.1, rails 13, 14 secured to the underside of the desk top, two pedestals 11, 12 releasably mounted on the underside of the desk top between the rails, and legs 21, 22 releasably attached to the pedestals and to the rails or desk top. Each pedestal 11, 12 is mounted by inserting brackets 16, 15 on the rails 14, 13 in respective openings bounded by the front top rail and front panel and the rear top rail 17, Fig. 2, and rear panel of the pedestal. The front rail is initially engaged with brackets 16, and brackets 15 are passed through slots 18 in rail 17 and the pedestal is then slidden sideways to the position shown in Fig. 2. Brackets 15 may be replaced by a block 40, Fig. 5, secured to the desk top and provided with turn keys 41 for engaging pedestal rail 17; or by bolts passing through the rail 13 and engaging rail 17. Each leg 21, 22 has an intermediate projection 27 that engages a slot (28) Fig.4 (not shown) in a plate 29 on a bottom side rail 30 of the pedestal. Alternatively, the rods passing through pedestal rails 43, 44 are threaded into nuts held captive in the legs; or clips (45) Fig.6 (not shown) on pedestal rail 30 engage in U-brackets (46) on the legs. The legs have end brackets 24 formed with apertures 26 for the reception of studs 25 on the rails 13, 14, see Fig.3 (not shown); or sockets in the ends of the legs receive studs on the desk top. Alternatively, a bolt passing through each leg is threaded into a captive nut in the associated rail. The pedestals are inter-connected by an I-member 36, the short limbs fitting over the pedestal rails 35 and being secured thereto by turnkeys thereon, and the long limb carrying a panel 31 located between studs 33, 34 on the desk top.
