1,244,166. Convertible furniture; shelving; detachable chairs; furniture parts of standard dimensions. COURTIER CO. Ltd. 29 Nov., 1968 [6 Dec., 1967], No. 55559/67. Headings A4B, A4H, A4J and A4U. An assembly of elements to form knockdown furniture, e.g. table and shelf or bookcase (Fig. 8), chair (Fig. 7), table (Fig. 9), comprises at least two flat rigid supports A interconnected in spaced parallel vertical planes by detachable rails F, screws (G) and knobs H, and at least one flat rigid board D adapted to extend in a horizontal plane between the supports A. Board D is supported on supports A by tongues (E) or projections on board D received in slots B or recesses in the supports, and/or the supports A may have battens to support board D. Dowels screws (G) pass through holes C in supports A, and are threaded into rails F and knobs H, or may be part of knobs H. Cork washers (I) are provided, or the ends of the rails and knobs may be cork coated. The supports A may be stood on one side and board D arranged on the other side. The parts comprise wood, plastics, metal. For longer tables, &c., the rails F may be connected end-to-end and the boards D interlocked. The boards may be upholstered and the rails padded.
