Abstract

1325604 Gripper shuttle looms UNITAKA Ltd. 27 July 1970 [26 July 1969 25 April 1970 27 April 1970] 36353/70 Heading DIE In a gripper shuttle loom, the free weft end is entrained in an air stream across the path of a main gripper shuttle, 15, Fig. I during picking thereof, so that the shuttle grips the weft, and means are provided to actuate the shuttle to release the weft when it reaches the other end side of the loom. In one embodiment Fig. 1, a yarn blower 11 blows the weft across the path of the gripper shuttle, and a suction tube 13 holds the weft end. A yarn gripper consisting of a plate 16a spring biassed against a fixed plate 16e releases the weft when electromagnets 16g are actuated to attract a plate 16c. Weft is drawn from a package 110 by rollers 17 and one weft width is stored in a pipe 18, which may have suction applied to it 59, Fig. 9. The shuttle may be picked by an electromagnet 81, Fig 14, the yarn gripper 16 being opened simultaneously with the picking of the shuttle. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 9 and 11b, weft is held by a suction nozzle 53 across a tube 51 through which the shuttle 66 is picked. A switch 52, for example a photoelectric device on the tube 51 detects the approach of the shuttle and opens the yarn gripper 54a. A similar arrangement at the other side of the loom detects the arrival of the shuttle and the yarn gripper 16. The shuttle 56 has spring loaded gripper arms portions of which project from the sides of the shuttle so that the arms are opened as the shuttle passes through a narrowed portion 51b of tube 51 to grip the weft. The shuttle may be as described in Specifications 1,325,603 and 1,325,605. When more than one kind of weft yarn is used, there may be one yarn blower (71'), Fig. 13, (not shown) corresponding to each weft, or the wefts may pass through separate guide tube (17d), Fig. 12 (not shown) in a single yarn blower 71, Fig. 14. Weft selection is carried out by having a weft yarn gripper for each weft, 79, 710 and 711, Fig. 14, and horizontally movable yarn guides 76, 77 and 78 which keep the weft yarn ends not selected just inside the end of the blower 71, so that only the yarn selected extends across the path of the shuttle 75.
