Abstract

1324974 Lateral thrust unit NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 4 Feb 1972 [10 Feb 1971] 4377/71 Heading B7V A lateral thrust unit 14 comprises a main duct 42 which terminates in a nozzle 44. An interaction chamber 46 communicates with the nozzle outlet 48 and two tapering outlet ducts 30, 32 separated by a nose piece 74 diverge from the interaction chamber one on one side and one on the opposite side of the centre plane of the unit. Control ports 50, 52 are on either side of the centre plane at the nozzle outlet, each control port area being at least 5% of the nozzle outlet area, and control flow passages 54, 56 lead from the main duct to the control ports. Valves 62, 64 separately open or close the passages to fluid flow through the passages.
