Abstract

1324295 Venting and filling tanks J MULLER 19 April 1971 [17 Feb 1970] 20876/71 Headings B8T and B8X [Also in Division F2] To prevent overflow when filling a tank 6, a liquid supply pipe 32 is connected to tank inlet pipe 1, valves 27 and 33 are manually opened, liquid flows into the tank via open float-controlled valve 17, passages 13, 14, 12 and a pipe 9 until it reaches level 39, when float 8 closes the valve 17 to stop the flow; a float controlled-vent valve 37 remains open throughout this period; valves 27 and 33 are then closed, supply pipe 32 is uncoupled, and valve 17 is manually opened (through linkage 18-23) against the action of float 8 to permit liquid remaining in pipe 1 to enter the tank 6, the resultant rise in liquid level closing vent valve 37. This closure of vent valve 37 prevents overflow if, for any reason, the liquid level continues to rise. The vent pipe 2 is additionally provided with an assembly of two spring-controlled flap valves 40, 41 respectively opened by excess pressure on respective sides of the assembly.
