Abstract

1323881 Nuclear power plant C A PARSONS & CO Ltd 17 July 1970 [22 July 1969] 36848/69 Heading G6C In nuclear power plant in which gas exhausting from a gas-turbine plant 3, 4 passes to a heat-exchanger 7, to give up heat to the working fluid of a steam-turbine plant 8, prior to returning to the reactor 1 and in which a separate circuit conducts gas directly from the reactor to a part of the heat-exchanger, an evaporator section 7b of the heat exchanger is composed of two parts connected in parallel, one part being heated by gas passing directly from the reactor to the heat-exchanger and the other part being heated by gas exhausting from the gas-turbine plant. The gas-turbine plant comprises two turbines 3, 4 which drive compressors 5, 6 and a generator 10 which is driven, also, by the steam-turbine 8. The heat-exchanger 7 comprises also an economizer section 7a and superheater section 7c. A circulator 2 in the separate circuit can facilitate removal of decay heat by fluid in that circuit while the reactor is shutdown; in the event of rapid load-shedding the working fluid of the steam-turbine circuit can act as a heat-sink. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), an intercooler (13) provided between the stages of the compressor 5, 6 allows heat to be taken up by water prior to passing into the heat-exchanger 7.
