Abstract

1323780 Rotary positive - displacement compressors INGERSOLL-RAND CO 16 Nov 1971 [11 Feb 1971] 53162/71 Heading F1F During normal operation of a compressor 12 pressure-operated valves 28, 30 are open and closed, respectively, so that oil 20 in a receiver 14 returns to the compressor through a line'22, a mixture of compressed-air and oil flows through a line 16 and check valve 18 and compressed air issues through a line 25. When the compressor is shut down the pressure reduction in a line 34 opens the valve 30, which then allows air to escape from the receiver to the atmosphere through an orifice 36. The consequent increase of pressure in a line 32 closes the valve 28, thus preventing the oil 20 escaping through the compressor. The valve 28 comprises piston 48 which when moved to the position shown in phantom lines against the action of a compression spring 50 by the pressure in the line 32 transmitted through a port 52 prevents the oil flowing between ports 42, 44 past a check-valve element 58. Leakage oil and air escape through a port 62.
