Abstract

1323481 Discharge lamps WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 7 Dec 1970 [31 Dec 1969] 57976/70 Heading H1D A double-walled gas discharge lamp having an arc tube 26 mounted on one lead-in 16 comprises a support frame 22 mounted on the second lead-in 18, the frame being connected to the arc tube so as to restrict lateral movement of the arc tube but to allow axial movement due to thermal expansion. The support frame has resilient springs 24 which contact the outer envelope and welded to the frame cross member 32 is a spring 38 which allows axial movement of the ceramic arc tube. In alternative embodiments there may be provided an axially aligned pin/aperture at the top of the frame 22 which co-operates with a corresponding aperture/pin provided on the upper arc tube electrode (Figs. 3, 4, not shown), and electrical connection from the lead-in conductor 18 through the frame 22 to the upper electrode is ensured by providing a flexible conducting strap between the frame 22 and the upper electrode.
