Abstract

1320940 Hydroponic cultivation SEMPERIT AG 30 Sept 1970 [2 Oct 1969] 46470/70 Heading A1E Containers for hydroponic cultivation of plants, formed from plastics or other thin sheet 5, have a root accommodation containing discrete pieces which are at least in part foamed or porous and may contain single plants or may be elongated and contain a number of plants, Fig. 7. The root space only may be enclosed or the upper parts of the plant may also be enclosed in the same or a separate sheet. The sheet may be penetrable by the roots to allow planting of developed plants directly into the ground. Alternatively a container may be inserted into a slot in a larger container or containers 31, 32 to increase root space, Fig. 19. The sheet may be perforated, Fig. 7, so that feeding may be effected by immersion periodically in nutritive solution or the solution may be introduced via pipes passing through or connected to the root containers, Figs. 11 and 15. Using the same or similar pipes gases may be passed through the roots and over the upper parts if enclosed. The root space may be formed between two generally horizontally extending sheet with pipes for carrying nutritive solution passing through (Fig. 17 not shown), or the sheets may be partly joined along parallel lines to form root spaces 7 and conduits 24, Fig. 16. Heating and illuminating devices may be incorporated within, and insulation placed around the containers.
