Abstract
1319806 Treating moulded articles BRANSON INSTRUMENTS Inc 7 Sept 1970 [10 Oct 1969 31 Oct 1969] 42747/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division B3] A method of degating or deflashing a moulded part comprises mechanically coupling the gate or part to a source of ultrasonic energy of sufficient amplitude and intensity to degate or deflash the article. The part may be made of thermoplastic synthetic material, e.g. nylon. In Fig. 3 a high frequency electrical generator 20 energizes a magnetostrictive or piezo electric converter 22 which applies ultrasonic vibrations to the gates (14) or parts 12 by means of a velocity transformer or mechanical impedance transformer 24.
