Abstract

1312863 Fenders NORTH AMERICAN ROCKWELL CORP 7 June 1971 19290/71 Heading B7S [Also in Division F2] A fender comprises one or more inflatable tyres 30 rotatably mounted on arm 32 of a bellcrank which is pivoted at 34 to a vertically movable carriage 26, and at X to a telescopic shock absorber 44. In use, the carriage 26 is adjusted by chains 62 along the side of a vessel 10 to maintain the tyre(s) at sea level throughout the transfer of cargo from vessel 10 into another vessel 12 which is tied up alongside by breast and spring lines (16, 18, Fig. 1). Further floating fenders can be provided in the form of stacks of inflatable tyres (74) which become operative when fender 24 has been fully compressed.
