Abstract

The sides of the amphibious vehicle are fitted with hinged flaps, whose hinges are on the upper horizontal edges. The flaps are fitted with elastic hinges and are raised and lowered by pneumatic/hydraulic rams. They enclose folded buoyancy bags (5) and to increase the buoyancy of the vehicle, the flaps are swung into a horizontal position and the bags inflated. To fold the bags, the flaps are simply compressed with the rams. The system operates fully automatically and protects the bags in the folded position.
