Abstract

1312728 Reversing gearing YANMAR DIESEL ENGINE CO Ltd 16 Nov 1970 54412/70 Heading F2D A marine reversing gear comprises three parallel intermediate shafts 1, 2, 2<SP>1</SP> arranged in arcuate formation about an output (i.e. propeller) shaft 15, the intermediate shafts 1, 2, 2<SP>1</SP> each having a pinion 5, 6, 6<SP>1</SP> freely journalled thereon, which pinions 5, 6, 6<SP>1</SP> respectively mesh a large gear 16 fast on the output shaft 15 and may each be connected by hydraulically engaged friction disc clutches S1, S2, S3 to gears 3, 4, 4<SP>1</SP> fast one on each of the intermediate shafts 1, 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, the centre gear 3 meshing the adjacent gears 4, 4<SP>1</SP> and being connected via a flexible coupling 17 to an engine crankshaft (not shown). Forward drive is effected by simultaneous engagement of the two clutches S2 S2<SP>1</SP>, forward drive thus being effected from the driving gear 3 via gears 4, 4<SP>1</SP>, clutches S2, S2<SP>1</SP> and gears 6, 61 to the output gear 16 and propeller shaft 15, whilst reverse drive is effected simply by engagement only of the centre clutch S1, reverse drive thus being effected from the driving gear 3, clutch S1 and gear 5 to the output gear and propeller shaft 15.
